ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Vidushi Shashwati Mandal
Shashwati ji is an internationally acclaimed vocalist of the Gwalior Gharana. She was trained by her mother, Guru Kamal Mandal and then by Guru Balasaheb Poonchwale. Coupled with her rigorous training & by assimilating aspects from Dhrupad as well as from other gharanas & genres, Shashwati ji has charted her own, unique path as a vocalist. This granddaughter of renowned musician Pandit Balabhau Umdekar is known for her beautiful, resonant voice & the clarity and dexterity of her renditions. She is the leading exponent of ‘Tappa’. She has been invited to perform at most major prestigious music festivals in India & abroad – Sawai Gandharva, Saptak, Darbar Festival UK, Vishnu Digambar Jayanti Samaroah, Harballabh & ITC Sangeet Sammelans, Hridyesh Art Festival, Tansen Samaroah, to name a few.
Mausam
Dr. Mausam has been described as a born rasika of music! He has accompanied several notable musicians in addition to his wife, Shashwati ji, such as Pt. Vidyadhar Vyas, Ustad Mashkoor Ali Khan & others. He has also learnt vocal music from Dr. Sharad Gadre of the
Gwalior Gharana. He teaches artificial intelligence, machine learning & natural language processing at IIT Delhi.
Tejas Tope
Tejas is a student of Pandit Samir Chatterjee whom he has learnt from since age 5 & continues to learn with him. He was also under the tutelage of late Ustad Zakir Hussain for 15 years until Zakir ji’s passing. Over the past 10 years, Tejas has toured globally, performing solos as well as accompanying many leading vocal, instrumental, and dance performances.
